About the Faculty of International Studies' Center for the Multicultural Public Sphere at Utsunomiya University
Established in April 2008, the Center for the Multicultural Public Sphere pursues empirical and theoretical studies of transnational issues associated with globalization, as well as regional issues such as coexistence with foreigners, interchange with foreign communities, regional environmental protection, and sustainable development. The institution also aims to organize centers for advancing practical initiatives related to the formation of multicultural public spheres and the promotion of global education. At the Center, a forum particularly open to the local community, teachers and students from the Faculty of International Studies cooperate and freely exchange ideas with a wide range of organizations and individuals, including local governments, international exchange groups, and citizens' organizations such as NGOs and NPOs, in various ways through the organization of university extension courses for citizens and symposiums. The University hopes that freshmen who join the Faculty of International Studies will actively participate in projects organized by the Center for the Multicultural Public Sphere.
